The 21-year-old woman who accused Nelly of rape may have backed down, but Washington authorities insist on pursuing the case against the rapper, TMZ is reporting.
According to the gossip blog, the police in Auburn, Washington, remain undeterred by the accuser’s noncooperation with the investigation, insisting that they are still gathering evidence against the rapper, and plan to present their case soon to the prosecutor’s office.
The surprising turn comes just days after the accuser’s attorney Karen Koehler, said her client wanted the Washington authorities to put a halt to the criminal investigation of [Nelly].
“She will not testify further in a criminal proceeding against him,” said Koehler, who went further to say that the alleged victim feels that the system failed her by refusing to stand up for her, that she cannot stand up to a celebrity without getting harmed.
“Who will believe her?” the attorney asked. “People are saying horrible things already. She cannot handle this. She is about to break.”
Well the authorities are not backing down.
TMZ adds that they intend to present the case against Nelly to prosecutors soon, maybe within the next week. And reacting to the update, Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, is so sure that the case will be tossed out and closed based on evidence.
“I would expect the police to do their due diligence,” the lawyer added.
